Haridwar is one of the famous pilgrimage city (Dhaarmik Sthal) for Hindus in India. In the Samudra manthan, Haridwar, Ujjain, Nasik and Allahabad are the sites where drops of Amrit, the elixir of immortality, spilled over from the pitcher when it was with celestial bird Garuda. Haridwar means Dwara of Hari or Gateway to reach God. Here, Hari means God and Dwar means Gate.
